This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles and procedures that guide how we manage health, safety and welfare during all removal activities. It applies to every member of our team, including managers, supervisors, drivers, porters, office staff, contractors and any temporary workers engaged in our removal services.
Our aim is to conduct all removal, packing, loading, transport and delivery work in a way that prevents injury, ill health, damage to property and avoidable disruption for our customers and the public.
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with company management, who ensure that appropriate resources, training and supervision are provided. Managers are responsible for implementing this policy, monitoring performance and making improvements where necessary.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for day to day health and safety on jobs, including task planning, briefings, checks of vehicles and equipment, and ensuring that safe systems of work are followed.
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. All staff must follow the procedures set out in this policy, use equipment correctly, wear the required personal protective equipment and report any hazards, incidents or near misses immediately.
We carry out suitable and proportionate risk assessments for all removal activities. These assessments consider hazards such as manual handling, trips and falls, working on stairs, loading and unloading vehicles, use of lifting equipment, vehicle movements and work in customers premises.
Control measures are put in place to reduce risks to an acceptable level. These include planning access routes, using correct lifting techniques, team lifting, use of trolleys and mechanical aids, securing loads, and controlling public access to work areas where appropriate.
Written procedures and safe systems of work are communicated to staff through training, briefings and job instructions. These are reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes to work methods, equipment or locations.
We are committed to ensuring that all employees are competent to carry out their work safely. Induction training covers our health and safety policy, emergency procedures, safe manual handling, vehicle safety and customer care while on site.
Further training is provided as required, including advanced manual handling, use of lifting equipment, safe loading and securing of goods, working in confined or high risk areas, and any new procedures or equipment introduced. Refresher training is carried out periodically to maintain standards.
Supervisors monitor working practices to confirm that training is understood and applied. Where additional support is needed, targeted coaching and further instruction are provided.
Manual handling is a key part of removal work and is managed carefully to minimise the risk of strains, sprains and long term injury. Staff are trained to assess loads before lifting, use correct posture, avoid twisting, and work in teams for heavy or awkward items.
Suitable equipment is provided, including sack trucks, trolleys, skates, straps, ramps, furniture blankets and other protective materials. Mechanical aids and lifting equipment are used whenever reasonably practicable to reduce manual handling risks.
All equipment is inspected regularly and maintained in safe working condition. Defective or damaged equipment is removed from use immediately and reported so that repair or replacement can be arranged.
Our vehicles are maintained to a high safety standard and are inspected and serviced in line with legal requirements and manufacturer recommendations. Drivers must carry out daily checks before use and report any defects promptly.
Only authorised, trained and appropriately licensed personnel are permitted to drive company vehicles. Driving hours, journey planning and rest breaks are managed to reduce fatigue. Loads are packed and secured to prevent shifting during transport, and weight limits are respected at all times.
Drivers are expected to follow all road traffic laws, drive considerately and adjust their driving to weather, traffic and local conditions to protect passengers, other road users and the goods being transported.
We plan our removal activities to minimise disruption and risk to customers, neighbours, pedestrians and other building users. Where necessary, clear walkways are established, and trip hazards such as packing materials, tools and cables are controlled.
Protective coverings are used to safeguard floors, bannisters, doors and other vulnerable surfaces. Particular care is taken in shared spaces, stairwells and entrances to prevent obstructions and maintain safe access and emergency routes.
Noise, dust and vehicle movements are kept to a reasonable level, especially in residential areas or near commercial premises where other activities may be taking place.
All accidents, near misses, damage to property and health and safety concerns must be reported as soon as possible. Incidents are recorded and investigated to identify root causes and any improvements that may be required in procedures, equipment or training.
Lessons learned from incidents and feedback from staff and customers are used to improve our health and safety management over time. This commitment to continuous improvement helps maintain high standards and reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
We encourage open communication on health and safety matters. Employees are consulted about changes to working practices, equipment or procedures that may affect their safety. Concerns or suggestions for improvement are welcomed and considered by management.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry guidance, working methods or organisational structure. The current version is made available to all staff and can be provided to customers on request.
By following this policy and working together, we aim to provide removal services that are safe, reliable and considerate to everyone involved.
We pride ourselves in offering tghe cheapest services that are above and beyond any other removal companies in Finchley, N2.
